Blog #1 – Getting To Know Your Farmer.

Hello everyone and welcome to our very first blog. This is very exciting!! I suppose we sat down and thought why write a blog? But it’s obvious… know your farmer! You must know someone to trust them. The plan is for me (Susan) to write this but anyone who knows Shay he will probably claim to take credit for it, or at least any funny one liners haha

Shay is now full time Seaview Farms chief farmer, this is the first week for Shay being full time Seaview which is exciting and nerve wrecking too. But this is what we have been working towards and it’s really something to celebrate! Communication is key and effective ‘To Do’ lists. Shay is never happier then when he is out in the field with the cattle or pigs, planning cover crops or learning about butchery. So he will be happy as a pig in sh*t. He is also much better than me at picking up the phone and making the call to whoever it is we need to consult. Shay does not get along with social media… he hates the camera but he might start doing the odd video throughout his day to keep you guys up to date with the goings on. While I will be blissfully carrying out my day to day OT work Shay will be managing Seaview. At this time of the year there will still be jobs we can get done in the evenings after I finish work, Shay and I both still live at home with our parents and trust me we do not take for granted the background work of the ‘washing fairies’ and the chefs/dishwashers who help us on the daily.

Is anyone familiar with the movie Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, well I couldn’t have a blog without mentioning Ruprick AKA Teri, Shay’s younger sister! Though she is yet to actually come on a date with us. Teri helps us out on a daily basis, whether it’s moral support or on the many many market stall she attends Teri knows how to sell our story just as we do!

As I write this my dog Chip (who is actually more loyal to Shay than me) is at my feet. He’s a superstar and never fails to brighten up even the most stressful day. I did a Masters in Human Animal Interaction a couple of years ago and my plan is for Chip to help me with Animal Assisted Therapy. At the moment he has his work cut out for him just being therapy for me, especially with organising our new website which is now live and ready for you guys to check out. We are very excited about the website and what better time to launch a blog! Fire any questions our way so you can Know Your Farmer, Know your Food and Know your future.
